Mt. Chestnut Presbyterian Church

727 W. Old Rt. 422 Butler, PA 16001

*Where do you see God at work? Where can you say God is working in yourself, your family, other people and situations? God is very involved with people but often we don't have the eyes to see it. (Matthew 13: 11-16)  God not only invites us to see how He is involved in this world, but He also wants us to be involved with Him in His mission.
*We have just celebrated Pentecost and recognized that the Spirit of God enables believers to see and hear what we could not see or hear before.  "Each one heard [the disciples] speaking in his own language, and they were amazed." The people suddenly heard and understood the Gospel for the first time as the Spirit opened their ears to hear.
*Over the next three years we will be training our eyes to see, and our ears to hear some of the amazing things that God is doing in and around our lives. These could be simple observations like watching children play together and be kind to each other, or having an "a-hah" moment of true communication with your child.  One of these rare, mystifying moments when you truly connect. Or it could be your decision to respond in faith to a situation where in the past you would have been deeply upset.
*We want to see how God is at work in the world and join Him in that work. There will be alot of listening to each other and discovering the Spirit who gives gifts and sends us forth into the streets to our neighbors and community.
*The Mt. Chestnut Session has called some of our members to be a  Steering Team to guide us through this process. They also invited people to be Listening Leaders to interview 24 people, randomly chosen from the church family to get a feel for who we are, where we have been and where we sense God is leading us.
*The first task of the Steering Team is to hold a Timeline Event to focus on the past and present. This 96 minute conversation about our history will be held on Wednesday evening, June 30th at 7:00pm in the Fellowship Hall.  While all officers, Steering Team and Listening Leaders are requested, this is open to everyone in the church family.Come and give your input.
*For the next three years, we are partnering with other Presbyterian Churches who want to see what God is calling them to be. We will also meet three more times a year for teaching from some church consultants. We will be studying the scriptures to understand how God is calling us to be sent into the world, just like the first disciples. This building then becomes a Worship Center and an equipping center for the followers of Jesus Christ.
*This is an exciting journey to those of us who have been involved for several months. We believe you, too, will experience some different perspectives of God's work, and see for yourself many more God moments.

****In Christ's love, **Jeff
